Frequently asked questions

What is bioidentical hormone therapy?

Hormones (estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, DHEA) that are structurally identical to the hormones naturally produced by your body. No synthetic variation so the body sees, recognizes and can utilize them just as it would it's own!

Can Hormone Therapy help with brain fog, sleep and fatigue?

Yes, it absolutely can. Often early morning or middle night awakening is a sign of progesterone insufficiency. Correcting quickly can help restore effectrive sleep patterns and reduce brain fog.

Is Hormone Replacement Therapy covered by insurance?

Unfortunately, bioidentical hormones are not covered by insurance.

Can my OB/GYN or Family Medicine doctor prescribe/manage my hormones?

They can, but they are limited to conventional medical practices, commercial labs and pharmacies such as walgreens and CVS where the dosages are unable to be customized to each patient. These situations are designed to help women in early menopause and not designed around a custom, individualized approach where we are targeting longevity and balance, not just disease management.

How does Hormone Replacement Therapy work and how much does it cost?

Your first visit and testing is roughly $429. This includes provider visit and overview of health history, lab review and your initial test (saliva test done at home) of cortisol levels, all three estrogen levels, progesterone, DHEA and testosterone. After your results are available, we will have another discussion on which hormones you need, the route of replacement (cream or pills) and a detailed customized plan. We also discuss which tier of membership you fall into. Cost is between $175-$220/mo and covers all of your hormones, provider visits, unlimited email/text message support from provider and any additional testing needed.

I'm over 60, is hormone therapy safe for me?

absolutely, many women start and continue hormones throughout their entire lives. Each case is evaluated separately during intial evaluation.

What symptoms can be helped with hormone replacement therapy?

HRT may help reduce hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, mood swings, vaginal dryness, low libido, and brain fog. It may also support bone density and metabolic stability as well as cardiovascular health, weight and overaly longevity and quality of life!

What kinds of hormone replacement do you offer?

Options may include creams, patches, gels, capsules. The right form depends on individual health factors and treatment goals and is compounded specifically for each patient based upon specific lab results. I can absolutely help determine which route may be appropriate.

How long does it take to start seeing symptom improvement when on hormone replacement therapy?

Many women will notice improvements within several weeks, while others may take longer depending on symptoms and hormone levels. I watch each patient closely over the first year, often testing every 4 months and adjusting doses as needed. Women in perimenopause also need close following because the body is transitioning every month. Monthly memberships allow for testing as we need at no additional cost so we can test and adjust doses as we need.

Can hormone therapy help me with weight gain?

Absolutely. Hormones influence insulin sensitivity, muscle mass, and fat distribution. Optimizing hormones may certainly support metabolic stability. I will discuss on case by case basis need for additional labs via your primary care doctor or our office if weight gain has not been appropriately evaluated.

What is IV therapy?

The practice of administering fluids through a small plastic catheter is inserted into your vein directly into your blood stream.

What are the benefits of IV therapy?

IV therapy delivers essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. This is especially beneficial for individuals with digestive problems, as it ensures nutrient absorption even when the digestive tract is compromised.
Rapid rehydration
Higher concentrations of ingredients can be administered than can orally.
Directly available for absorption - bypassing the gut environment.

Is IV therapy safe?

Yes. Your IV is administered by either an RN, PA-C, NP or critical care paramedic; they are all seasoned professionals!

How long does an IV therapy session take?

Depends. If it is a quick IV push, then allow for about 20 minutes from time you walk in to time you leave. For an entire treatment with hydration, can be 1-1.5 hours.

Are there different types of IV therapy?

Yes. An IVP (IV PUSH) is where a small needle is inserted into your vein (like a butterfly needle for a blood draw) and concentrated nutrients are pushed directly into your vein. If you desire hydration along with your nutrients or are getting an infusion that calls for fluid dilution, then an actual IV is inserted into your vein.

How often should I have IV therapy?

This depends. Often treatments can be situational, meaning if you're coming down with a cold or feel run down, we can boost you for that specific targed reason. Other treatments like heavy metal chelation for anti-aging are recommended every 1-2 months. People with absorption issues would need more frequent infusions so the answer is...it depends!

80% of the population is dehydrated so a boost in simple hydration status is always beneficial and can be done weekly for most healthy individuals.

Is IV therapy covered by insurance?

Unfortunately no. You can use an HSA or FSA card for certain conditions.

Are there any potential side effects or contraindications?

  • Depends on treatment but generally, these infusions are very, very safe. Every patient will be evaluated by a healthcare provider prior to recieving any IV treatments.
